The Knüllköpfchen, also called crumpled head, is an extinct volcano and 633.8 m above sea level. NHN is the second highest mountain of crumpled Mountains ( crumpled ) and belongs to the Schwalm- Eder district in northern Hesse, Germany.

Since you defined the Mountains to the 20th century in a much narrower range, the Knüllköpfchen is referred to in some sources as the highest mountain of crumpled mountains.

Geographical location

The Knüllköpfchen is located in the northwest part of the district of the city Schwarzenborn. The mountain is located approximately 20.5 km (air line ) west of Bad Hersfeld, 14.5 km east of Schwalm city and 13 km south of Homberg ( Efze). Just 1.9 km southeast of its summit is the core city of Schwarzenborn, with its hamlet Rich Mountain on the northwest slope, and about 7.5 km south-east rises the highest mountain of crumpled mountains of Eisenberg ( 635.5 m above sea level. NN ). On the northern slope of the crumpled little head swells the Herget Bach, on the southern slope of two spring-fed streams of Efze and on the western slope of the springs from Steina. The eastern neighboring mountain, the forest is crumpled ( 624.4 m above sea level. NN ).

Infrastructure and culture

In the immediate vicinity of the summit is the Boglerhaus, a youth hostel with an attached restaurant. It stands on the site of the former Bogler - Kate, who belonged to the painter of the crumpled landscape Friedrich Wilhelm Bogler. The parking lot at Boglerhaus is accessible via road from goats grove after Schwarzenborn or from the west and northwest across the road from Frielendorf. In addition to the Boglerhaus is the KnuellCamp, a Christian recreational and educational facility with a campsite and a snack bar. Next door is located at the site adjacent steel truss tower, the information center of the crumpled mountain club, on the northwest slope are a small wind farm with five wind turbines and the hamlet of Rich Mountain.

The earlier in the Mosenberg in Homberg ( Efze ) organized nationally known summer music festival takes place since 2006 every year in Knüll Camp and Boglerhaus.

On the mountain stands since 1978, a 12 meter high observation tower, the August Franke Tower. Also located to the west, just below the summit, a 46 meter high steel framework tower of the German Post Office. He used the radio communications and is also used by a local chapter of the Amateur Radio Club.

Activities

The mountain is a popular destination in the region, with a well-developed network of hiking trails, which opens up the whole crumpled. Since 2007, the crumpled Mountain Club maintains an information center with club archive on the mountain. In winter there is a groomed trail.
