Ko Chang District

Amphoe Ko Chang ( Thai: อำเภอ เกาะ ช้าง ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the province ( Changwat ) Trat in the eastern region of central Thailand. It is located in the southwest of the province.

Ko Chang ( alternative spelling: Koh Chang) is also an island in the Gulf of Thailand on the east coast of Thailand near the border with Cambodia. It is to Phuket 492 km ² and Samui ( 228.7 km ²) is the third largest island of Thailand.

History

Koh Chang was created on 30 April 1994 by the division of Amphoe Laem Ngop. First, Ko Chang was a sub-district ( King Amphoe ). On 15 May 2007, the Thai government has decided to bring all 81 King Amphoe "normal" in the Amphoe status to simplify administration. With the publication in the Royal Gazette " Issue 124 chapter 46" of 24 August 2007, this decision officially entered into force.

Management

Koh Chang is ( tambon) divided into two municipalities, which in turn in nine villages ( Muban ) are divided.

Ko Chang ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เกาะ ช้าง ) is also the name of a small town ( thesaban tambon) of the island. It consists of the entire Tambon Ko Chang.

There is also a " Tambon Administrative Organization" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Administrative Organisation) in the district.
