Ko Kut District

Koh Kut ( Thai: อำเภอ เกาะ กูด ) is a district ( Amphoe ) of the province ( Changwat ) Trat in the eastern region of central Thailand. It is located in the south of the province.

Ko Kut ( alternate spelling: Ko Kood and Koh Kuut ) is located also the name of an island in the Gulf of Thailand, south of Ko Chang.

Demography

It is home to around 2,000 people on the wooded, hilly island ( highest elevation 315 m), therefore, Ko Kut is the district with the lowest population density of Thailand.

History

In the past, the present district was a part of the sub- district ( tambon) Ko Chang in the district ( Amphoe ) Laem Ngop. As 1952, the sub-circuit Ko Mak was established, it comprised the entire island Mak, which consisted at that time of four villages ( Muban ). In 1980 three villages of Ko Mak were separated, and from the sub-circuit Ko Kut was established.

On 1 April 1990 was promoted Tambon Ko Kut together with Tambon Ko Mak to the small district ( King Amphoe ).

On 15 May 2007, the Thai government had decided that all 81 King Amphoe to rise in the simple Amphoe status to unify the administration. With the publication in the Royal Gazette " Issue 124 chapter 46" of 24 August 2007 Ko Kut officially received the full Amphoe status.

Management

Ko Kut is divided into two subdistricts (tambon ), divide further into eight villages ( Muban ). There are no cities ( thesaban tambon) on the island, but two " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations).
