Ko Samet

Ko Samet ( Thai: เกาะ เสม็ด, also Koh Samed ) is an island in the Gulf of Thailand, which is the coastline of the province of Rayong ( Thailand) upstream approximately 6.5 kilometers.
Location and characteristics of
The island has beautiful sandy beaches and excellent diving spots are seen in the corals. Today, increasingly, tourists come and weekend visitors to the nearby capital of Bangkok for recreation there. The accommodation on the island consist mainly of simple huts, but you can also camp, provided you have the necessary equipment.

- Hat Sai Kaeo (glass sand)
- Ao Cho
- Ao Wongduan
- Ao Wai
Transport
The usual journey way via Bangkok for tourists from Ekkamai Bus Station along Sukhumvit Road ( Sukhumvit Road ) and the bus takes about three and a half hours to Ban Phe. From there, there is a ferry, which takes about 30 minutes to the island, you can also rent speed boats. On the island, there are no paved roads. The existing roads may be impassable during heavy rains. It is possible to rent a quad or bike and thus move to the island. Furthermore, there is a taxi company for transportation.
National park
With the exception of the area of Na Dan the island belongs since October 1, 1981 for the National Park Khao Laem Ya - Mu Ko Samet, along with the islands of Ko Kuthi (also: Ko Kudi - เกาะ กุ ฎิ ), Co Kruai ( เกาะ กรวย ) Ko Kham ( เกาะ ขาม ) and Ko Plai Tin ( เกาะ ปลา ติ น ).
Literary
The island has been chosen by the Thai national poet Sunthorn Phu as the scene of his famous story of Phra Apaimani.
