Kobe Mosque

The Kobe Mosque (Japanese神戸 モスク, Kobe mosuku; Kobe also known as神 戸 回教 寺院, Kobe Kaikyo jiin to German as " Kobe - Islam Temple ") is a mosque in the historic Foreign Quarter Kitano -chō of Borough of Chūō -ku the Japanese city of Kobe, about 10 minutes walk from Sannomiya station.

Since the Mosque of Kobe is so far the only mosque in the Kansai area, they traditionally attracts many of the Muslims enjoy the small Japanese community, but also Muslim tourists in Japan. History

The establishment of the Kobe Mosque goes into 1928 back, which was founded as the, in the same year, the Islamic Committee of Kobe from the Shōwa tennō permission to build a mosque in Kobe was granted. The construction was financed by donations from India and its implementation in the Czech architect Jan Josef Švagr (1885-1969) delivered up, who designed the mosque after Turkish model, since Turkic immigrants from the Soviet Union accounted for a large part of the Islamic community in Kobe after the October Revolution.

The mosque was completed in October 1935, and inaugurated. This makes it the oldest mosque on Japanese soil.

Towards the end of the Second World War it was requisitioned by the Imperial Japanese Navy. Your basement served the military as a bunker during Allied bombing raids.
