Kobersdorf (Hungarian: Kabold, Croatian: Kobrštof ) is a market town with 1925 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Burgenland in the district Oberpullendorf in Austria.

Geography

The municipality is located in Schwarzenbachtal in Central Burgenland.

Community structure

The municipality comprises the three villages (in brackets population as of 31 October 2011):

  • Kobersdorf ( 1071 )
  • Lindgraben (227 )
  • Oberpetersdorf ( 632)

The municipality comprises the cadastral Kobersdorf, Lindgraben and Oberpetersdorf.

The village lies at the foot of the mountain Pauli, the youngest of Austria extinct volcano. Parts of the municipality is part of the Natural Park Landseer mountains.

History

Before Christ's birth, the area was part of the Celtic kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the area of the Celtic hillfort castle on the Schwarzenbacher Castle Hill.

Later, under the Romans today Kobersdorf then lay in the province of Pannonia.

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Kabold.

After the end of World War II Austria was after tough negotiations German West Hungary in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 and 1920 respectively awarded. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

In Kobersdorf there was a Jewish community since 1526, founded by refugees from Sopron. Since the 18th century Kobersdorf was one of the Seven Jewish communities in Burgenland. 1828 lived 746 Jews in Kobersdorf, until 1934 their number dropped to 172 The synagogue was built in 1860 is only one of the seven churches still preserved and exploited since a restoration for memorial events.

Blazon: In red a golden pole, each accompanied by a six-pointed golden star.

The three golden stars not only refer to the three districts Kobersdorf, Lindgraben and Oberpetersdorf that are combined for greater community Kobersdorf since January 1, 1971, they also point to the three dominant religions ( Protestantism, Catholicism and Judaism ) in Kobersdorf.

Twinning

Kobersdorf maintains a partnership with the Baden-Württemberg town forest Brunn.

Culture and sights

Kobersdorf is a natural park community in the Landseer Berge and accordingly has a good and widespread mountain biking, cycling, riding and hiking trails, which at the nature park lake Kobersdorf and the Kober villages Zeltlagerplatz passes among others.

Also known are the activities carried out Kobersdorf Castle Castle Kobersdorf, in the summer months of July and August.
