Koča Popović

Koca Popovic (Cyrillic Коча Поповић; born March 14, 1908 in Belgrade, † October 20, 1992 ) was a Yugoslav politician.

He attended a grammar school in Belgrade and studied philosophy at the Sorbonne. In 1933 he became a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. In the years 1937-1939 he fought as a volunteer on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War. In 1941, he joined the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army.

In the years 1946 to 1953 he was Chief of the General Staff of the Yugoslav People's Army, 1953-1965 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. After that, he was until 1972 the Yugoslav vice president.
