Kochergasse

The Kochergasse is a street in the Old Town. It is about 200 meters long and leads from the federal court to Casino Square. On its south side are the eastern wing of the Parliament Building and the Hotel Bellevue Palace, on its north side, the Swiss National Bank and the administration building, " Federal House North " (the headquarters of UVEK).

The Kochergasse is part of Inner Neustadt which was built 1255-1260 as part of the second expansion of the city. Until 1740 it was called Jewish street, named after the Judentor, which was built from 1458 to 1473. The gate was about 20 meters east of the present-day main entrance to the parliament building and was demolished in 1678 to make room for the ball home. 1740 was called the road Inselgasse, named after the former University Hospital. After the death of originating from Bern Nobel Prize winner Emil Theodor Kocher was in 1917 renamed in his honor in Kochergasse.
