Kochi people

The Kuchi (pronounced Kutschi, Persian for nomad, also called Kuchgâr ), formerly Yuezhi, are Pashtun nomads who live in the northeast and southern Afghanistan and in Pakistan. In Afghanistan, they are among the Ghilzai and the Durrani Pashtuns.

The Afghan government estimates their number officially to six million of the 32 million inhabitants of Afghanistan. The Kuchi are the largest nomadic group in the country and account for about 20-30% of the Pashtun population. The group is referred to by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan as one of the most vulnerable groups in the country. Hashmat Ghani Ahmadzai Pashtun is their ethnic leaders.

Provisions have been introduced (Article 14), which should help to improve the situation of Kuchi in the Afghan Constitution. This includes provisions for housing, education and political representation.

In recent years, claimed Kuchi country repeatedly in Hazadschat and then attacked the fleeing population of Hazara at several times, even bazookas were used.
