Koçi Xoxe

Koçi Xoxe IPA / kɔʧi ʣɔʣɛ / - ie Kotschi Dsodse - ( * 1917, † June 11, 1949 in Tirana) was an Albanian politician.

Life and work

Initially he worked as a plumber in the region of Korca. He became involved in the local Communist group, which also belonged Enver Hoxha.

From 1943 to 1948 he was a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Albania ( PPSh ). Of 23 March 1946 to 3 October 1948, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister of the People's Republic of Albania, and thus controlled the secret police Sigurimi. Xoxe was a supporter of the pro- Yugoslav faction in the PKSH and immediately after the Second World War one of the most influential politicians of Albania and Enver Hoxha 's main rival. On the 8th Central Committee plenum in February 1948, this escaped only narrowly deposed as general secretary of PKSH by Xoxe.

After Stalin's break with Tito in June 1948 Hoxha was after he had secured the support of the USSR, overthrow Xoxe. Xoxe was expelled in November 1948 from the party and arrested along with other officials of the Interior Ministry and in a secret trial ( 11 May-10 June 1949) sentenced to death for " Trotskyist and titoistischer activity " and hanged.
