Kock

Kock (German Kotzk ) is a city in the powiat Lubartowski in the Lublin Voivodeship, Poland. Kock is also the seat of the urban and rural commune ( gmina miejsko - wiejska ). The city was known by the Kotzker Rebbe.

Geography

Kock is located about 45 km north of Lublin and 120 km south-east of Warsaw on the edge of the plateau Pradolina Wieprza and Równina Łukowska. The city is located on the western course of the Via Jagiellonica.

History

Evidence of settlements there are in the area of ​​cork city since 5000 BC The present city goes probably back to settlements from the tenth century. In 1233 there was the settlement in the possession of the Bishop of Płock. 1417 Kock received city rights, and in the year to hold twice a market. 1648, the city was destroyed by acts of war. 1809 there was a battle of Kock in the Napoleonic Wars.
