Kockar Ata

Kockar Ata, ( Khodzha - Kochkari, Koçqər -i Hodja or Koçkır -i Baba ) was a dervish of Hodja Ahmed Yesevi. He lived in the 12th century in Turkestan ( Khorasan ) and was a major representative of Sufism.

Life

About his life very little is known. He was said to be from the tribe of the Teke Turkmen Oghuz tribes and have taught the mystical doctrine of enlightenment. According to a legend, he is said to have had a taste for Aries fights. His name, which means " father of Ram ," he owes therefore its unbeatable Aries. Shortly after the death Kockar Ata 's be Aries should have died of grief, and have been buried with him. In fact, on the tomb of a Kockar Ata Aries Bust present, what with Arabic alphabet the inscription "ya Allah, ya Muhammad, ya Ali " stands. Even tribal names such as " Koçgiri " or " Köşkerler " were later named after him, and are descended from him.
