Kodinsk

Kodinsk (Russian Кодинск ) is a town in Krasnoyarsk (Russia) with 14,830 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the Angaraplateau, about 730 km north-east of the regional capital of Krasnoyarsk, 10 km from the left bank of the Angara.

The city is the administrative center of the Kodinsk Rajons Keschma. City and Rajon are managed together.

Kodinsk has an airport.

History

In the vicinity of the present town, the village Kodinskaja Saimka in 1930 for political exiles founded, named after the river Koda (also Kada, Evenki for rocks ). In April 1977, in connection with the construction of the dam of the Bogutschanystausees on the Angara (about 10 km north of the city) laid the foundation for a new settlement, which received the status of urban-type settlement in 1978 under the name Kodinski. In 1989 the city charter was granted under the present name.

In Kodinsk is opened in 1985, the Historical- Ethnographic Museum of Rajons Keschma.
