Kodo (taiko group)

Kodo (Japanese鼓 童) is a Japanese taiko drum ensemble.

Kodo is used in the notation "children of the drum ", but also plays on the homonymous but鼓动written word for " heartbeat, pulse " on.

Kodo comes from the 1971 founded on the island of Sado Sado no Kuni predecessor, Ondekoza (佐渡 の 國鬼 太鼓 座, " Devil Drum Troupe from the country Sado "). Her debut under the name Kodo they gave in 1981 at the Berlin Festival. Since then, they have had over 3100 worldwide performances.

History

Kodo was founded in 1981 by former members of the group had Ondekoza and in the same year her debut at the Berlin Festival. The next seven years, the group spent by Europe, Japan, touring North and South America and the Middle East.

Members

The group currently has 48 members, of which 24 artists and 24 organization personnel. The artists are 22-52 years old. With part-time workers and apprentices Kodo community is about 70 people strong.

Artist apprentices live two years in the house of the community, an old school house. For junior member selected apprentices spend another year of learning and practice, hoping to become a part of the organization Kodo.

Kodōmura

After the group lived more than a decade in a converted school house, they bought a large piece of densely forested area in the southern part of the island of Sado. In 1988, the group ( Kodo Village鼓 童 村, engl. ) Opened the Kodōmura on this property.
