Koff (ship type)

Koff denotes a historic and commonly used in coastal shipping vessel types. The koff was in the 18th and 19th centuries along the North Sea coast of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany in use. Typically, a Kuff had half masts, with a gaff sail on the main mast, and one or two square sails on its topmast. The mizzen mast was also rigged with a gaff sail. The ship had a plump shape with a flat bottom boat and strongly rounded and raised bow and stern shapes. Smaller Kuffen were equipped with side swords.
