Koga (Ibaraki)

Koga (Japanese古河 市, -shi) is a city in Ibaraki prefecture in Japan.

History

Koga is an old castle town, which was founded in the 13th century by Shimokōbe Yukiyoshi. After that, it took advantage of the Uesugi and Oyama ( 1382 ). 1554 took over Hōjō Ujiyasu the castle. In the Tokugawa period, the castle belonged successively to the Ogasawara, Nagai, Doi, Hotta, Matsudaira, Okochi, Honda, Matsui and then from 1762 to 1868 again Doi (土井) with an income of 80,000 koku.

Koga was appointed on August 1, 1950 to shi ( independent city ).
