Köinge, Falkenberg Municipality

Köinge is a place ( småort ) in the Swedish province of Halland County and the historical province of Halland.

History

Köinge was for several centuries one of trial. In the 17th century Köinge was chosen as the site of Thingstätte the Faurås Harde. Thus, a tradition was established as a legal court, which ended only in 1906, when the then district court was moved and the court building, which stands opposite the local cemetery since 1835, lost its meaning. The last execution took place in 1831 and was on the gallows of the Harde, the about 800 meters west of the Court situated " Galgabjär " enforced.

Economy and infrastructure

By 1936 there were in Köinge an inn and a few years ago also a delicatessen and a bank branch. A gas station existed until 2007 in the village.

From 1894 to 1959 Köinge was a stopping point on the railway line Falkenberg Limmared. After the setting of the train service the building for several years served as a post office; today there is a library with club room.
