Kokkari

Kokkari (Greek Κοκκάρι (n. sg. ) ) Is a small tourist town on the north coast of the Greek island of Samos. The town of Samos is located nearly 10 km to the southeast, Vourliotes about 4 km to the west.

Kokkari was founded in the 19th century on the ruins of an older village of settlers from the neighboring village Mytilinii. Kokkari in German means " small onion " and is an indication of the in former times cultivated here the same vegetables.

The most important source of income for Kokkari is tourism, which has been introduced in Kokkari in the early nineties, followed the oil power plant in the state energy utility DEI. The fishing in the earlier, much of the population has grown from Kokkari, today plays only a minor role.
