Kokkolan Palloveikot

Kokkolan Palloveikot (KPV ) is a football club from the city of Kokkola in western Finland. The Finnish Champion 1969 plays since 2012 in the third- highest division of the country, the Kakkonen.

History

The club was founded in 1930. KPV is deemed Club of Finnish-speaking inhabitants Kokkola, while local rivals GBK ( Gamlakarleby Bollklubb ) is regarded as the club of the Swedish-speaking population.

After KPV long played second class, 1966 succeeded the initial rise in the then called Mestaruussarja highest league in Finland. There, the team was able to establish quickly. The greatest success was winning the championship in 1969 with three points ahead of Kuopio PS. In addition, KPV was 1973 runner-up and finished second in two seasons third place. 1979 had to take the team to the relegation relegation, but could there secure the league. A year later, this was no longer possible. After KPV had finished the league in last place, they failed in the relegation and had after 14 years of the transition to the second division compete.

Twice, in 1981 and 1989, which back in the Bundesliga in the Mestaruussarja, however, KPV could not keep there permanently. In the 1995 season, the initial crash into the third division took place. After the re-emergence in 1997 and a renewed decline in 1999 succeeded in 2004, the rise in the Ykkönen where KPV was active until 2011. In the 2009 season, the team reached the to participate in the First Division Relegation to qualifying in second place, but failed there to JJK Jyväskylä. The 2011 season they finished second to last place and put up at the Kakkonen.

In the Finnish Cup KPV reached twice, in 1982 and as a second division side in 2006, the final. Both finals were lost, however, in 1982 with 2:3 against FC Haka and 2006 with 0-1 against HJK Helsinki.

KPV was also active internationally twice. As a Finnish champion you failed in the European Cup of Champions 1970/71 in the first round with 0:9 and 0:5 to Celtic Glasgow, as runner-up team lost in the first round of the UEFA Cup 1974/75 with 1:5 and 1 4 against 1 FC Cologne.
