Geography

Geographical location

Kolbingen lies down on the Heuberg, a plateau of the Swabian Alb to the Danube valley, in the heart of the Natural Park Upper Danube.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Renquishausen, to the east by Bärenthal, to the south by the cities Fridingen on the Danube and Mülheim an der Donau, and to the west by Mahlstetten and in the extreme northwest of Böttingen.

History

Kolbingen was first mentioned in 1253. The name of the village suggests that an Alemannic gentleman named Colbo and his men settled here and founded a settlement. The Catholic community " Savior Jesus Christ " is part of the Dean's Office Tuttlingen - Spaichingen of the Diocese of Rottenburg- Stuttgart. The present parish church was built in the 1970s; the baroque St. Xystus Church is still used at funerals.

Natural Monuments
