Kolbotn

Kolbotn is the administrative center of the Norwegian municipality in the district Oppegård Follo Fylke Akershus. Kolbotn has 6000 inhabitants and is located 13 km south of the center of the City of Oslo.

Description

Kolbotn lies on the northern shore of the lake Kolbotnvannet and has a railway station of Østfoldbanen 15 minutes drive from Oslo.

In the center are an entertainment and sports center, the town hall of Oppegård and a shopping center. The church dates from the early 1920s.

Kolbotn has several elementary and middle schools and a secondary school.

Music and sports

Located in the village are founded here in 1986 Black Metal band Darkthrone, the hip- hop duo Paper Boys, founded in 1998, and the sports club Kolbotn Idrettslag, with 4,000 members of one of the largest in the country. Club was a member of two -time Olympic champion (1988 and 1992 ) in Greco- Roman wrestling Jon Rønningen. In recent times, particularly successful was the snowboard rider Helene Olafsen. The handball and volleyball men were Norwegian champion 1992 /93. Particularly well known is the association but by its successful woman footballers, three-time Norwegian champion in 2002, 2005 and 2006 and Cup Winners 2007. Among the most famous players include the Norwegian internationals Solveig Gulbrandsen and Isabell Herlovsen.

Other notables from Kolbotn

The polar explorer Roald Amundsen lived for many years near Kolbotn. His house is still standing and in the center Kolbotns is a small statue of him. The former head of Norway's Conservative January Petersen is from Kolbotn. Norway's former Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik lived many years in Kolbotn, but he comes from Molde. Other well-known personalities from Kolbotn are Jan Baalsrud ( war hero ), Rolf Presthus ( politicians ) and Frode dump ( football player).
