Koldo Gil

Koldo Gil Pérez ( born January 16, 1978 in Pamplona ) is a former Spanish cyclist and was of since 2001-2008 cyclist.

Team

In 2001, Gil drove for iBanesto.com and in 2002 for one season for ONCE team. The Spaniard is running at present the team Saunier Duval- Scott, where he fills a supporting role.

Career

His first professional success celebrated Gil at the 2002 Vuelta a La Rioja, his breakthrough, however, he succeeded in the Tour of Catalonia in 2003 with a third place in the overall standings. His other successes include winning the Vuelta a Murcia in 2005 and a stage win at the Giro d' Italia 2005.

In the Tour de Suisse 2006, he took 2nd place overall, only 24 seconds behind the winner Jan Ullrich. Gil had won the stage to La Punt- Chamues -ch on day 6 and remained until the final individual time trial in the lead, which he finished in ninth with 1:14 minutes behind Ullrich and thus the Tour victory just missed. Due to a judgment delivered on 9 February 2012 the International Sports Court CAS Ullrich was stripped later in the Fuentes doping scandal named after the victory due to his collaboration with Eufemiano Fuentes and his involvement. Therefore Gil subsequently moved to No. 1 in the Tour de Suisse 2006. Gil himself was also involved in the doping scandal Fuentes: Prior to the Vuelta a España 2006 he his team Saunier Duval- Prodir refused to participate in the tour, as he is mentioned by name on Fuentes ' customer list.

In 2009, he announced his retirement. In his resignation statement he gave directly to the UCI to have found a new team to blame.
