The breakpoint Lövenich is a stop on the S -Bahn Rhein-Sieg in Lövenich district.

It bears the name operationally Lövenich S -Bahn and is independent of the almost one kilometer east railway station Lövenich, the former passenger station in the resort, which is only a pure overtaking without possibility for change of passengers today.

History

Between 1839 and 1841 the Rhenish Railway Company extended its regular route from Cologne train station At the turrets to Aachen Rh station, the line for passenger service was opened to Lövenich on July 2, 1840.

In the late 1990s began to develop the railway line for high-speed traffic on the one hand and the S -Bahn on the other. The former station Lövenich was closed and dismantled its platforms.

With the construction of the S -Bahn line from the breakpoint Cologne Hansa ring to Düren several stops were rebuilt or newly built. The new breakpoint Lövenich was doing only about 50 meters west of the former station at the level of the crossing of the highway 213 furnished.

Location

The breakpoint is located at a convenient location between the districts of Cologne Lövenich in the north and in the south pasture. It has a central platform of 96 cm height above top of rail, which can be reached by stairs and elevators on both sides of the Brauweilerstraße.

It is served by two lines of the S -Bahn Rhein-Sieg: First of the line S 12 of Düren or Sindorf via Köln Hbf and Siegburg / Bonn to Au (Sieg), on the other hand of the line S 13 of Horrem over Cologne Central Station and Cologne / Bonn airport to Troisdorf.

The line S 12 runs Mondays to Fridays at the breakpoint Lövenich in 20 -minute intervals, the S 13 line serves him only during rush hour, but then also in 20 -minute intervals. In the section Horrem - Cologne Trimbornstraße they thus form in the rush hour along a 10 -minute intervals.
