Kolpashevo

Kolpashevo (Russian Колпашево ) is a city in the Tomsk Oblast (Russia) with 24,124 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the southeast of the West Siberian Plain, about 270 km northwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Tomsk on the right bank of the Ob.

The Kolpashevo is the Oblast administratively subordinated directly and administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

Kolpashevo has a small airport and a boat landing on the Ob. There is a road link with Tomsk, but only on a ferry to the left Obufer. 2009 or 2010 to begin the construction of a nearly two -kilometer-long bridge, but was postponed.

History

Kolpashevo originated as a village in 1611, only a little later than Tomsk. The name refers to the founder, the " porter " Kolpaschnikow. 1710 it was mentioned as Kolpaschnikowo. The village was at the usual place before the establishment of the Siberian tract way to Tomsk and on to Siberia. Therefore, many early expeditions came through the village or stopped here, such as the First Kamchatka under Vitus Bering.

1933 Kolpashevo urban-type settlement, and in 1938 it received city rights.

From 1932 to 1944, the city was the administrative center of the circle Narym ( Narymski okrug ), in which there was a series of Gulag camps. In May 1979 became Kolpashevo sad notoriety when on nearby bluffs Kolpaschewski Jar a mass grave from the Stalin era was flushed by floods and many mummified corpses drove for weeks on the Ob. Presumably, at the direction of then- Tomsk Oblastsekretärs the CPSU Yegor Ligachev the incident should be covered up by the bodies reburied not but sunk in the river or were dismembered with propellers. A 1990 court proceedings opened in this context, however, was set in 1992.

Culture and sights

In Kolpashevo there is a local history museum.

Economy

Kolpashevo is the center of the river fishing and has a shipyard for fishing vessels. There are also metal processing and food industry, in the area agriculture and forestry.

Near the town there is a command post of the Space Forces of Russia ( Kosmitscheskije woiska Rossii ).
