History

The train station (now East Japan Railway Company) opened on 15 November 1910 by the Japanese National Railways as a passenger station on the Yamanote Line. On 13 April 1945, the station was completely burned down as a result of any loss caused by an air raid by the U.S. Air Force fire. On November 29, 1991, the metro station Namboku line was opened. On 23 December 2006, extensive renovation work, which included measures to barrier-free facilities with escalators and elevators, officially ended.

Design and tracks

Both the JR East railway station and the Tokyo Metro station are built in the most commonly encountered design of a station as a transit stations. The tracks of the Yamanote Line run at the station in east-west direction and drive a single central platform to. The tracks of the Namboku line following the course of the national road 455 in the north-south direction and run directly below. The Namboku line also runs it to a single central platform.

The station is served by the JR East Yamanote Line and the Tokyo Metro with the Namboku line. The colors used in the table below correspond to the color codes used on the society of the lines.

Station melody

Since the time of the cherry blossom 2006, a title called Sakura Sakura is at the train station (さくら さくらSakura Sakura, dt cherry blossom, cherry blossom) played because it is assumed that the Yoshino Cherry (染 井 吉野, Somei - yoshino, nomenclature Prunus × yedoensis ) could have one of its origins near the present railway station. Originally, the use of the melody was limited only to the time of the cherry blossom, from 2007, the melody was, however, used permanently as Stationemelodie.

Environment

Towards the Tabata train station is approximately 350m from the train station Komagome one of only two crossings on the entire Yamanote Line.

Near the station are among others the Rikugien Garden (六 义 园, Rikugien ) and the headquarters of Akutagawa Confectionery (芥 川 制 果).

Use

In 2007, the Yamanote Line was used at the station from an average of 46 582 passengers a day, so that the 94th took over 900 on the ranking of the busiest train stations of JR East in 2007. The station Namboku line was used in 2007 an average of 33,572 passengers a day, which in 2007 ranked 93 of the most popular stations in the Tokyo Metro took it.
