Koman languages
Among the Komuz languages ( from coma and Gumuz contracted name ) refers to a group of relatively little -studied African languages , which are spoken on both sides of the Sudanese- Ethiopian border. They are classified in the hypothetical family of the Nilo-Saharan languages. A subset of Komuz languages form the coma languages.
Structure
- Gumuz [ guk ] (about 160,000 speakers)
- Coma languages: Uduk [ udu ] (also Twampa; approximately 20,000 speakers)
- Kwama [ sq km ] (about 15,000 speakers)
- Komo [ xom ] (even coma; approximately 11,500 speakers)
- Opuuo [ Ign ] (also Shita; 300 speakers)
- Gule [ gly ] ( extinct)
According to Bender ( 2000), however, Gumuz and coma languages do not form a genetic unit, although the same author had previously combined both.
