Komi Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic

The Komi ASSR ( Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of Komi ) was an autonomous Soviet republic in the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic ( RSFSR ) within the Soviet Union. It existed from 1936 until 1991. 's Capital was Syktyvkar. The Komi are a Finno- Ugric people, they make up about one third of the population of the area from. The region in north-western Russia west of the Urals is 415.9000 square kilometers and is inhabited by approximately 1.5 million people. Three-quarters of the country is covered with forest, large areas waterlogged. In the mining center of Vorkuta in Uchta is funded in large quantities of oil and natural gas. After the end of the USSR in 1991, the region maintained its status and has since become a republic Komi part of Russia.
