Komsomolsk, Ivanovo Oblast

Komsomolsk (Russian Комсомольск ) is a small town in Ivanovo Oblast (Russia) with 8693 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 35 km west of Oblasthauptstadt Ivanovo at the Uchtochma, a right tributary of the Volga river system in Uwod.

Komsomolsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Komsomolsk was taken near the old village Milowskoje 1927 in connection with the construction of the thermal power plant Ivanovo. After commissioning of the power plant on October 5, 1930, the City received in 1931 the status of an urban-type settlement ( considered the founding year). The place is named after the youth organization Komsomol.

In 1950 the city charter was granted.

Culture and sights

Economy and infrastructure

In Komsomolsk is the original peat, but now powered with fuel oil thermal power plant Ivanovo ( Ивановская ГРЭС / Ivanovskaya GRES ) with a capacity of 214 megawatts. The expansion to 700 MW is configured. There are smaller establishments in the electrical and hydraulic equipment construction, textile and food industry and the timber industry.

The town is the end point of a 35 -kilometer-long railway line from Ivanovo (only freight).
