Kon-Tiki is a Norwegian documentary about the Kon-Tiki expedition of 1947, the Norwegian explorer, adventurer and writer Thor Heyerdahl and his expedition companions. Thor Heyerdahl produced the film together with Olle Nordemar. The documentary from 1950 in 1952 won an Oscar in the category " Best Documentary ". Kon-Tiki was the "Best Foreign Language Film " nominated in 1952 at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts ( BAFTA, literally British Academy of Film and Television Arts ) and the British Academy Film Awards in the category.
Content
At the beginning of the film explains Thor Heyerdahl 's theory that Polynesia was settled from South America 1,500 years ago, which was in contrast to the established scientific thesis on an immigration from Asia. In addition, he explains that he can prove by means of its simple -to-date with the raft crossing that this time would have been at least possible. Furthermore Heyerdahl shows several diagrams and pictures of his expedition. In addition, he explains and shows from the construction of the raft and the start of the expedition from Peru.
For the film some homemade photo and film shoots were taken from their crossing. So the film shows in this part mainly original sequences and photographs with the crew on board the raft Kon-Tiki at the crossing. Heyerdahl commented and translated in the film while continuously on. These recordings are black and white and were shot with a single 16- mm camera. It has also included some color film and photo material.

Aftermath
1955 presented Heyerdahl Galapagos another documentary on the same subject. 2012, a film about the Kon-Tiki expedition was produced in Norway under the same name. This is a biographical film drama about the explorer and adventurer Thor Heyerdahl and his Kon-Tiki expedition and its members. The film was directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg and the lead role as Thor Heyerdahl played Pål Sverre Hagen Valheim.
