Konferenz Nationaler Kultureinrichtungen

The Conference of National Cultural Institutions (KNK ) is a consortium of internationally renowned museums, collections and archives of the new federal states.

History

The merger was founded on 1 March 2002 in the Francke Foundations in Halle. The foundation was inspired by a created at the initiative of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media evaluation study, the so-called Blue Book. All "national importance " classified cultural institutions in the eastern German states were summarized in the Blue Book, first published in 2001. In three occasions - in a slightly different selection and ranking - published Blue Book (2001, 2002/ 03 and 2006), the "beacons ", the museums of national cultural heritage, are listed that have joined the conference of National Cultural Institutions.

The conference serves as a platform for exchanging ideas, economic issues and to mediate common interests and objectives. The main objective of the conference is to advocate for the preservation of cultural heritage in the new federal states and successfully present this in the Federal Republic of Germany and other European countries.
