Kong (Band)

Kong is a Dutch progressive metal band from Amsterdam, founded in 1988, disbanded in 2000 and was re-established in 2007.

History

The band was founded in 1988 by Dirk DeVries ( guitar, sampling), Aldo Sprenger ( guitar ), Mark fatigues ( electric bass) and drummer Rob Smits. Together they developed the first songs and reached a deal with Peaceville Records and released in 1990 that label their debut album Mute Poet Vocalizer. In addition, she played the first concerts, including in the Melkweg. After the release, they began with a tour through Europe. In the years 1992 and 1995 followed with Phlegm and Push Comes to Shove two more albums. Then Sprenger and Smits left the band and were replaced by guitarist and drummer Rob Snijders Marieke Verdonk. After the band had reached a deal with Roadrunner Records, the album EARMINeD was published in 1997. At this time Snijders left the band to join Celestial Season. He was replaced by Klaas Broekema, who was then also be heard on the published in 1999 Freak Control. The following year, the band members decided to disband the group for the time being, so that they could move on to other things. During this interruption published Peaceville Records in 2001, the best-of compilation 88 • 95 '.

In 2007, bassist Mark ticking decided to start the band again. As a new guitarist Tijs Keverkamp came for it to fill, which a few months later, drummer Mandy Hopman followed. Together they worked out new material, resulting in a demo with three songs resulted, which was released on MySpace in early 2008. A few months later completed guitarist David Kox the occupation. In August 2008, started to record a new album in her studio in Amsterdam. The album was produced and mixed by ex-guitarist Dirk DeVries. In March 2009 the album What It Seems Is What You Get was released on her own label Congenial Records. After the release the band played on various tours.

Style
