König Pilsener Arena

Formerly Revierlöwen Oberhausen

The König-Pilsener- Arena is a multi-purpose hall near the CentrO shopping mall in Oberhausen, North Rhine -Westphalia. The construction costs for the event hall stood at € 45 million. After a construction period of 14 months, the arena was opened on 8 September 1996. It was originally called Arena Oberhausen, since 1998, she is wearing because of a name - the name of the sponsoring König Pilsener brewery from the neighboring city of Duisburg.

The arena is part of the new center of Oberhausen. In this project, the structural change in the Ruhr area, the 143 hectare site of a disused Thyssen steelworks ( Gutehoffnungshütte ) was converted into a leisure and shopping center. Nestled in the infrastructure of the new center, the arena your visitors with over 14,000 free parking, several highway exits and the stop of the public transport in the immediate vicinity offers a convenient arrival and departure.

Configuration

The arena holds 12,650 people. This 10,000 seats are installed on two levels. Depending on the request of the organizers, the stage can be implemented as Center Stage, where the maximum capacity allowed 12,000 people. There are also two theaters configurations that are designed for 3,000 and 5,200 people.

Events

More than 800,000 visitors come to over 100 events a year in the arena. The range of events ranging from music concerts to sporting events. In 1996, Gloria Estefan 's first concert in the arena. Also shows like Stomp, Riverdance, the Youth of the New Apostolic Church in North Rhine -Westphalia or the awarding of the Eins Live Krone took place in the arena. The award show Viva Comet was filmed for the 4th time in a row in Oberhausen 2011.

In the seasons 1997/98 to 2001/ 02, the ice hockey team of the Revierlöwen Oberhausen played their home games at the Arena Oberhausen.

Management

It is operated by SMG Arena Entertainment Germany, a 100 percent subsidiary of SMG. The U.S. company based in Philadelphia is the world's largest provider of privately operated venues with over 200 world stadiums, arenas, exhibition and convention centers, theaters and science centers. In Germany SMG manages beside the König-Pilsener- Arena and the Science Adventure Odysséum in Cologne.
