Königgrätzer Marsch

The Königgrätzer Marsch ( Armeemarsch II, 134; Armeemarsch II, 195) is a German military march.

The Prussian military musician Gottfried Piefke composed after the victory of the Prussian troops over the Austrians at the Battle of Hradec Kralove on July 3, 1866 Königgrätzer march. This victory paved the way for the supremacy of Prussia in the German Confederation and ultimately to the establishment of the German Empire in 1871.

The first draft of the march is to Piefke have yet to be made on the battlefield itself. The six -eighth march first describes in two subjects, the indecisive battle between the first Prussian contingent and the Austrians, the second motif is crucial for the arrival of Prussian reinforcements. Used as a trio for the Königgrätzer march Piefke the Hohenfriedberger March to well remember the victories of Frederick II over the Austrians. In addition to this created Piefke the " Königgrätzer with other Trio" (Army march IIIB, 67), this second edition has today but no appreciable name recognition more.

The Königgrätzer march was the regimental march of the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment No. 91

The Königgrätzer march is one of the most important and best known German military marches, and is often played on official occasions, in Austria it is, however, very rare to hear for obvious reasons.
