Königsberg (Brocken)

View from the Brocken mountain king

Pd4

The Königsberg is a minor summit of the Brocken and 1033.5 m above sea level. NN is the third highest peak in the Harz in the district of Harz, Saxony- Anhalt.

Geographical location

The King Mountain is located about 4.8 km north- west of Schierke, a southwestern district of the town of Wernigerode in the core zone of the Harz National Park. It is located approximately 1.6 km south-west of the Brocken summit and a minimum of about 1.5 m southwest of the Brockenstraße (also called chunks road, county road 1356). Gipfelnah on the northwest flank lie the cliffs deer horns (up to 1023.2 m above sea level. NN ). As elongated ridge he runs from southeast to northwest.

National Park and former trails

Located in the National Park Harz mountain is closed to hikers. Previously conducted two paths on the ridge:

  • The old king mountain trail began near the plug hole and pulled up the hill at the old quarry Königsberg along to the pulpit cliffs. From it he was on the Raven Cliff, the old Eckerloch Schanze, direction boiler cliff and then through the Goethe Moor to Goetheweg station. He led over the mountain back to the Hirschhorn cliffs.
  • The old Goetheweg began on Goetheweg station and crossed the Königsberg between Hirschhorn cliffs and peaks cliff. Then he went down along the Goethe Moore to the railways at the New Goetheweg.

Granite cliffs

On the ridge there are several striking granite cliffs ( from east to west):

  • Rod cliff,
  • Schluftkopf,
  • Pulpit cliffs,
  • Several small unnamed cliffs,
  • Rabenklippe,
  • Boiler cliff,
  • Summit cliff of the mountain king and
  • Hirschhorn cliffs (deer horns ).

The rod cliff and the pillar -shaped Schluftkopf were once popular destinations and between Brockenstraße and Brockenbahn. The pulpit cliffs consist of a group of several granite cliffs, some of which are over 20 meters high. On the Rabenklippe there is an approximately 70 cm in diameter, large fire pit, which was fought in the granite. My age is unknown. The summit cliff is only about 1.5 m high.
