Konkan

Konkan is the name for a location between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats mountain range of the coastal region in western India between Alibag in the north and Mangalore to the south.

Konkan has no precisely defined borders, usually the southern districts of Maharashtra, the Indian state of Goa and the northern districts of Karnataka to be added. A large part of the population speaks Konkani, a kindred with the Marathi language.

By far the largest city in the region is Mumbai (formerly Bombay).
