Konrad Hubert

Conrad Hubert (also Pulbarbus ( nickname), Ornipogonis ( nickname), Konrad Huber, Konrad Huober, Konrad Humbert; * 1507 Bergzabern, † April 13, 1577 in Strasbourg ) was a Reformed theologian, hymn composer and reformer.

Life

Hubert attended from 1519 to school in Heidelberg. From 1526, he studied in Basel and was won here for the gospel. John Oecolampadius templates gave him much, but he could learn even more than its famulus. Staying at home this scholar gave him numerous personal relationships that he would continue in his correspondence.

When, after the battle of Kappel am Albis offered no new ways Oecolampadius recommended him to his friend Martin Bucer, who was very fond of Hubert's " friendly and good nature " and accepted him as his assistant in Strasbourg on St. Thomas. This office he filled for 18 years with the greatest devotion to duty. His modesty was so great that he never sought to influence. For Bucer, he was an invaluable helper, who sought to carry out the extensive work of the much stressed and often located on trips President of the Church Covenant and easier.

Numerous documents he had to write to terms and execute designs exactly. Theologically, he was entirely on Bucer's side and looked in mildness and indulgence to keep the middle. With the Lutheran direction Bucer progress in 1549 by John Marbach -down to power, he could not understand each other. In 1557 it was therefore expelled from the church and convent in 1563 dismissed from his post as assistant at St. Thomas.

Ever since he could hold a " free preachers " occasionally worship. Even when he wanted to publish Bucer's writings, he found a lot of contrast. In the preface to the " Tome Anglicanus " he spoke out about his relationship with Bucer. He retired from church life back more and more. His literary work, his loyalty to Strasbourg kind, but his songs do not let him fall into oblivion.
