Kontron

Kontron AG is one of the world's largest manufacturers of embedded computer technology and member of the Intel Communications Alliance.

Kontron supplies OEMs, system integrators, and application providers in a variety of market segments: data and telecommunications, automation, mobile computing, medical, aerospace, instrumentation and control technology and military technology. Kontron designs, manufactures and distributes worldwide.

The Kontron AG with its headquarters in Eching near Munich, is the holding company of the Kontron Group. At the Kontron Group include, inter alia, Kontron Europe GmbH ( Eching, Roding, Augsburg, Deggendorf and Kaufbeuren ). Further offices are located in Minneapolis, San Diego, Fremont, Montreal, Toulon, Bangalore, Penang, Taipei, Moscow and Beijing. The global sales of the products is also supported by numerous sales offices in over 20 countries.

History

Kontron was founded in 1959 by Branco Weiss. 1974 Kontron was sold to Hoffmann -La Roche, which sold the company again in 1989 at the Munich automaker BMW. In 2000, Kontron Embedded Computers AG was introduced on the Neuer Markt.

In September 2009 Kontron acquired the majority of the DIGITAL-LOGIC AG, a manufacturer of embedded computers and computer systems.

As announced on 20 May 2010, Kontron has acquired through its U.S. subsidiary, the U.S. AP Labs Group, headquartered in San Diego, Calif., to 100 %. The acquired company is regarded as one of the leading system integrators in the defense and aerospace industry, developed highly complex and robust computer systems and specialized applications.

On July 24, 2013 Kontron announced the closure of the sites Eching, Roding and Kaufbeuren by mid-2014. The headquarters will be relocated to Augsburg.
