Kópavogskirkja

The Kópavogskirkja is a church on the Kópavogur Hill near Reykjavík. It was designed by the architect Hörður Bjarnason and Ragnar Emilsson and consecrated after two years of construction on 12 December 1962.

The Kópavogskirkja which externally has the form of a centralized structure is organized as a church hall inside. Its layout is based on the Greek cross. The altar is in the east and the organ on a gallery in the West. In the north and south galleries were installed, which are meeting for church visitors.

The stained glass windows, designed by Gerður Helgadóttir are held primarily blue and red colors and create inside an atmospheric light.

With over one another pushed the shells Kópavogskirkja reminiscent of the Sydney Opera House by Jørn Utzon.
