Kopete

Kopete is a free instant messenger. The program is part of the KDE Software Compilation 4 The name is derived from the Chilean word Copete and means something like " alcoholic beverages ". The central communication component KDE Telepathy is the designated successor within KDE.

Kopete supports the widely used instant messaging protocols, XMPP / Jabber ( Google Talk, Nokia OVI, Facebook Chat, ...), OSCAR (AIM, ICQ), MSNP (MSN ) and YMP (Yahoo! ). In addition, it supports Gadu -Gadu, Novell GroupWise, Lotus Sametime and SMS. Therefore, he is counted among the so-called multi-protocol clients.

It also profiles several of the same protocol can be used. It is also possible to combine different profiles of other users under a meta name. Likewise, the profile of Kopete user can be grouped under a total profile.

Since version 0.11, there is also the possibility of using webcams. This is supported currently, the protocols Yahoo! and MSN.

Since version 0.12, an experimental support for the XMPP Jingle Audio extension available. Furthermore, it was replaced in this version of the theme art of the chat window for an Adium -compatible technology. The change makes it possible to use the same theme for both programs.

Since version 00:50 Kopete is based on KDE 4, provides an improved user interface and supports file transfers via ICQ and AIM.

About an included module encrypted conversations are possible with Kopete also by Off- the-Record Messaging. Another contained module also enables the encryption with OpenPGP standard, but this does not provide deniability and no inconsequence ( at revealing the private key ).
