Korets

Korez (Ukrainian Корець; Russian Корец Polish Korzec ) is a small Ukrainian city in the Rivne Oblast on the river Kortschyk about 64 kilometers east of the Oblasthauptstadt Rivne. It is located close to the border with the Zhytomyr Oblast, the next largest cities are Rivne and Nowohrad - Wolynskyj.

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1150 and was to the Second Partition of Poland in the province of Volhynia. Then it came to Russia and was until 1918 in the government of Volhynia. Between 1920 and 1939 Korez was under the Polish name Korzec border town between Poland and the Soviet Union. After the occupation by the Soviet Union in 1939 the site of the city status was awarded in 1940, after the occupation by Germany in the Second World War, the city came back to the Soviet Union and is since 1993 in what is now Ukraine.
