Korkino
Korkino (Russian Коркино ) is a Russian city in the Urals. It is located in the Chelyabinsk region and has 38 597 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
History
Korkino was founded in 1746 as a small settlement on the banks of the river Tschumljak ( Чумляк ). The village name comes from a legend according to the first settlers called Afanassi Korkin. The first census in the city in 1795 showed a population of just over 100 residents. In the 19th century Korkino had officially held the status of a Cossack village and was economical influenced mainly by agriculture and fishing. This status had Korkino until the year 1920.
Beginning of the 1930s lignite deposits were opened up near Korkino what the place brought a new meaning. Korkino was converted into a labor settlement early in 1933 and received city status in 1942.

Economy
In addition to the coal there is in Korkino several industries, including a reinforced concrete, a cement and a glass factory, as well as textile industry and a candy factory.
