Korogwe

Region

Korogwe is a city in the Tanga region in northeast Tanzania. The city lies on the Pangani and near the mouth of the Mkomazi and Luengera at the foot of the Usambara Mountains. Korogwe 2002 had around 27,000 inhabitants and is the capital of the district Korogwe. The city was stop the Usambara.

History

The city was originally built on an island in the Pangani. Here was the intersection of two trade routes, one for Victoria and one after Ugodo in the Dodoma region.
