Koronadal

Koronadal ( officially: City of Koronadal ), with the locals also known as Marbel, is a city of the Philippines located in the province of South Cotabato on the island of Mindanao.

On the one hand, the district center of the Philippine District XII SOCCSKSARGEN, on the other hand the capital of South Cotabato province.

Koronadal City is also an educational, administrative, economic and commercial center of the province, as well as the neighboring province of Sultan Kudarat.

Origin of the name

The word Koronadal is derived probably from two words of B'laan language. The first part comes from the word koren or colon, which refers to a Cogon grass, a robust type of grass that grows in the Philippines. The second part consists nadal or datal from the word, which means lowland. Together it describes the place where settled the locals, a flat grassland.

Another name of the city is Marbel. This also comes from the dialect B'laan and is derived from the word Marb -E and says cloudy water. The name probably refers to a nearby river, which is known as Marbel River today. It is quite possible that this name was originally used for the place.

Geography

Koronadal is situated in the northeastern part of South Cotabato province. The town is bordered by the municipality Tantangan in the northwest and the community Lutayan from the province of Sultan Kudarat in the northeast, by the community Banga in the southwest and south-east by the municipalities Tupi and Tampakan.

Koronadal is a fertile valley, bounded by the Roxasgebirge in the southwest and Quezon mountain range to the northeast.

The Roxas mountain range stretches from the Baranggay Saravia Morales in the southeast to in the north and breaks through the districts Carpenter Hill, San Isidro, Sta. Cruz, Mambucal and Poblacion. The Quezon mountain range stretches along the barangays San Jose, Mabini, Esperanza, Cacub and Topland.

The city is 56 km away from General Santos City and 136 km from Cotabato City.

Demography and language

The main dialect of the residents of Koronadal City is Hiligaynon ( Ilonggo ), which is 69.58 % of the population spoke. History

In the past, the area was populated by the ethnic groups of the B'laans and Maguindanao. Later immigrants settled from the Visayas in the area and founded the village of Marbel. When was the place to Koronadal is not known.

The settlement of Koronadal received on 18 August 1947, the Executive Order No. 82 the status of the administrative unit. As on 18 July 1966, the Republic Act No.. 4849 the South Cotabato province was formed, the city quickly got the encouragement to house the administrative seat of the new Province.
