Korsi

A Korsi (Persian کرسی ) or Sandali (Persian صندلى ), actually Chauki (Persian چوکى ), coffee ',' chair 'or' chair ', is a square, low table in the Iranian culture, which with a large ceiling - or depending on the size of the table several ceiling - is occupied. Under the table is traditionally a basin with hot coals. To dispense its heat more slowly they are hidden under a thick layer of ash. In the modern variant, it is an electric heating source similar to the Japanese Kotatsu. The glow gives warmth until the next day. The remaining embers is used for lighting the new charcoal.

At Sandals, like the hot stage mainly in Afghanistan or Korsi as he is usually called in Iran, the family members warm in the winter days by sitting on mattresses lie and sleep. The Korsi is in a common room, where the family during the winter time talks, poetry (of Hafiz ) recites and otherwise spend time.

It is a traditional household furniture in the winter. People sit on the floor to use the Korsi to dinner or on special occasions, such as the Yalda feast.

With the preparations for Nouruzfest ( housecleaning ) also ends Korsi time.
