Korte is a municipality in the central part of the Dijlelandes in the province of Flemish Brabant in the Kingdom of Belgium.

History

In 1095 the Bishop of Cambrai acknowledged the existence of the religious community on the Curtenbergh what is still regarded as the founding date of Kortenberg. The friars moved in 1222 from " Heuvel " ( the Curtenbergh ) to access the " Minneveld " where the Abbey of Korte mountain is today.

Cores

Except Korte mountain itself is the community of the following parts of Erps -Kwerps, Evergreen Mountain and Meerbeek. In the south of Evergreen Mountain is the village Vrebos. Between Erps and Meerbeek located near the train station, the village Schoonaarde.

Abbey of Kortenberg

The Abbey of Korte Mountain dates back to 1222. Has a long storied history of arson, looting and rebuilding behind. The oldest existing part is the gatehouse with the Gothic gate, built in the early 17th century and the brewery from 1732., The traditional knights' hall and the baroque chapel dating from 1934. Abbey, owned by the Archdiocese of Mechelen -Brussels, was provided on 14 February 2005 under monument protection.

Traffic

The municipality is crossed by the highway E40/A3. But Korte mountain property has no connection point. The connection points 21 and 22 in Sterrebeek in Bertem are closest. The National Road N2 crosses Korte mountain in the center and next to the E40 is an important link to Brussels.

Korte mountain has a railway station which is connected to the regional train Brussels -Liège ( line 36). The village of Erps -Kwerps has a railway station on the same line.

Korte mountain is a hub for a number of major bus lines of the Flemish public transport company De Lijn. The lines 351, 352 and 358 connect all via different routes lion with Brussels. The village Vrebos is connected via line 318 to Brussels. The bus line 271 from Brussels to Kampenhout moves to the village of Erps -Kwerps. The New START initiative connects through the bus lines 651 and 652 lions over Korte mountain with the Brussels Airport and the industrial area Brucargo.

Education

Each of the four boroughs has its own primary school. The oldest existing school is the Free Elementary School Mater Dei in Erps -Kwerps, which was founded in 1816. Outgoing school is only offered in the larger neighboring towns.

Twinning

Korte mountain is twinned with the town of Parcé in Brittany, France, and with Blauwgrond in Surinam.
