KOSMA

The Cologne Observatory for Submillimeter Astronomy ( KOSMA ) was constructed on the Gornergrat near Zermatt in Switzerland Radio Telescope, which was built by the 1st Physical Institute of the University of Cologne in 1985.

The exposed location ( 3'135 m above sea level. M. ) affected only a few atmospheric disturbances the research. With the 3 -meter parabolic mirror and the sensitive spectrometers interstellar molecular compounds in the submillimeter range were detected. The KOSMA was operated both by the University of Cologne and by the Argelander Institute for Astronomy at the University of Bonn. In 1996, the mirror has been completely renewed.

The telescope is now rebuilt in Yangbajain in Damxung, Tibet, in 4300 m height. In early 2011, it will go into operation at the new location.
