Kosovo Intelligence Agency

The news service of Kosovo ( Alb.: Agjencia Kosovar e Inteligjencës; engl. Kosovo Intelligence Agency ( KIA ) ​​) was founded on 4 February 2009 by the Kosovar government and is headquartered in Pristina, Kosovo.

Organization

The establishment of the Intelligence Service of Kosovo has been delayed since 2008 because the coalition partners of the Kosovar government could not agree on who is director of the KIA. On 4 February 2009 the Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci presented the new and first director of the Kosovo Intelligence Service Bashkim Smakaj. Soon the deputy and other inspectors will follow. Headquartered in Prishtina and first the Messenger service is housed in the government building.

Order

The news service of Kosovo is a civilian intelligence agency. His declared tasks include: obtaining information, counterintelligence, counter-terrorism and combating drug trafficking and organized crime.

Bashkim Smakaj is the first head of the Kosovo Intelligence Service. The leader is elected for five years in office with the possibility of re-election, but a maximum of one re-election.
