Kosovska Mitrovica District

The district of Kosovska Mitrovica ( Serbian: Косовско - Митровачки округ / Kosovsko - Mitrovački okrug, alb. Trepça ) is from the perspective of Serbia Serbian County and lies in the northern part of Kosovo.

On 17 February 2008 the parliament of Kosovo declared the independence of the state; the Serbian district division only plays therefore in reality a minor role.

Unlike other, more southerly parts of Kosovo, the district is inhabited by very many Serbs, who represent the majority of the population in many communities.

The area consists of the following major towns:

  • Zubin Potok ( serb. Зубин Поток )
  • Leposavić ( serb. Лепосавић )
  • Zvečan ( serb. Звечан )
  • Kosovska Mitrovica ( Serbian: Косовска Митровица )
  • Srbica ( serb. Србица )
  • Vučitrn ( serb. Вучитрн )

The administrative center is the city of Kosovska Mitrovica.
