Kosse (Königsberg)

Kosse or Cosse was a neighborhood on the northern Pregelufer western district of Königsberg ( Prussia). The Kosse was as a walking target of Königsberg. From " Dutchman Tree " you came to the only inn of the village or preferred the meadows, to bathe in the Pregel.

Name

The name is Old Prussian origin and has a wooded area with stunted pines and spruces: " kiss, kusselis " (small short, truncated or stunted trees).

History

The finished only in 1905 turned my district was dominated by commercial areas. Sea Channel was deepened by pillau and kept free by icebreaker through growing trade and prosperity end of the 19th century. In Kosse a gasworks was built and erected the "North German cellulose AG " in the early 20th century, which executed paper products to the UK, western and central Germany, had to be closed after the First World War due to lack of coal. Also in Kosse there were Dutchman Tree station, the gas and electricity works, the tram depot and a cold storage and ice factory.
