The Kossuthbrücke (Hungarian: Kossuth híd ) was a bridge over the Danube in Budapest.

At the end of the Second World War, in 1945, the hitherto existing seven Budapest bridges across the Danube were destroyed by explosions. Thus, a pontoon bridge was built across the 290 meters wide river for military purposes. This proved to be in the winter by ice floes in the Danube as unsuitable, so a permanent structure was needed.

For the construction of Kossuthbrücke pipework systems were dismantled from the oil wells in Zala county. During the construction work by the Red Army 15 workers lost their lives. For the period until the re-establishment of the remaining bridges (from about 1960), named after the Hungarian revolutionary leader Lajos Kossuth Bridge was the only connection between Buda and Pest. Heavy trucks could only individually traveled in one direction with a maximum of 20 km / h bridge.

When finally destroyed the Danube bridges were rebuilt, they put on the Kossuthbrücke fixed structural damage. The temporary restoration was dismantled in 1960 and not replaced. Later, the city administration installed on both river banks plaques in the amount of the former bridgeheads.
